Enjoying a Meal with Outer Aisle Gourmet

When I’m looking for some gluten-free info my go to gal is Mary Lansing of Along Comes Mary and today’s she’s sharing a new find here! Enjoy her review of Outer Aisle Gourmet, a SoCal based brand((complimentary items were provided). Take it away Mary!

Something that’s been interesting since I had to go gluten-free is discovering how many ways there are to make foods. I have had such unusual takes on our favorites. Zucchini brownies are oddly delicious, and, a new favorite? Cauliflower-based pizza crust and sandwich “bread”!

Thanks to Melanie and Outer Aisle Gourmet, I was thrilled to get a package of these goodies at my door step. Outer Aisle is re-thinking how we enjoy vegetables and “disguising” then in various, creative ways.

One of the biggest pet peeves I often have with gluten-free breads and pastas is the added carbs and calories. This is why I get a bit irked when people think I am gluten-free to lose weight. Most gluten-free products will have even MORE calories than your average, wheat-based breads. I’m looking at 200 plus calories when I grab my “Mary Friendly” breads for my favorite sandwiches and burgers.

Enter: Outer Aisle Cauliflower Sandwich Thins!

With only 40 calories and 2 grams of carbs per serving, I was a little skeptical when I saw these thins since they looked, well, thin, and I thought they may not hold up for our egg sandwiches or veggie burgers.

Instead, they were perfect, and I even had my burger crumbling somewhat yet, the sandwich thin? Not at all. Outer Aisle has done a fantastic job at ‘disguising’ the cauliflower in their products. It was full of flavor, and just enough to go with an array of meals.

My veggie burger. What can I say? I like it very simple!

From Outer Aisle’s Founder, Jeanne David:

“As someone born and raised in New Orleans, I grew up with great tasting food. As a Mom of 4 boys, I am passionate about serving healthy meals to my family. As most of you know, making great tasting, healthy food has been a challenge – until now.

Since our products are made with fresh vegetables, they are naturally low-calorie, low carb, low-fat, gluten-free and nut-free! On top of all the health benefits – our products taste delicious!

It is no secret that America has a weight problem. Over 2/3 of adults in the U.S. (144 million adults) are overweight and 1/3 are obese.

3 years ago, my husband and I were in the unhealthy 2/3 majority. At that time, we made a life-long decision to increase the vegetables and fruits in our diet and minimize the gluten, empty carbs, starches and sugars we consumed – back to the basics. However, as a result of this choice, we found we were deprived of many of our favorite foods. But no longer!

With Outer Aisle’s Cauliflower Sandwich Thins, we are able to once again enjoy a sandwich, and, at the same time, know that we are eating vegetables. Our pizza crust is delicious and also made from vegetables.

With Outer Aisle, finding gluten-free foods with low carbs is no longer a challenge.”

Huevos Rancheros Sandwich

Something that we ALL crave when we diet is definitely pizza. How many pizza crusts can boast 9 grams of protein per serving?! My fiance and I loved these products. My only advice is, if you make the pizza, go ahead and enjoy the entire pie when its fresh. Ours did not hold up very well for left overs (It got more crumbly. Which it’s not at ALL when we first made it) and, I usually heat food up in my skillet yet, I kid you not, I probably had the sandwich thins on there for barely 10 seconds and noticed they were beginning to burn. Hence the word “thin”! Do yourself a favor and try 10-20 seconds in the microwave 😉
