Happy Happy Hour Hour – Happy Hour at Lucille’s Smokehouse Barbeque
Oh man, I do love happy hour! And don’t worry, it’s not because I like to drink copious amounts of cheaply priced liquor. I love happy hour because it allows one (me) to sample a restaurant’s menu (both liquid and solid) at a reduced price. It’s like taking the restaurant for a test drive.
Now last week I went to happy hour at a restaurant that I’ve been to several times before – Lucille’s Smokehouse Barbeque. I know, I know it’s a chain. Now when it comes to restaurants, I often think “WWTBD” (What would Tony Bourdain do?). And I know, he’d never set foot in so low as a barbeque chain restaurant owned by Hof’s Hut. But, I guess we can’t all be gourmands and I see nothing wrong with a chain if it’s good. And Lucille’s is good, not great, but good. And honestly, they’ve got a pretty sweet happy hour.
When I first perused the menu, I felt a bit of sticker shock. The food averaged $3.99 a plate (not bad, but a bit high for happy hour) and the drinks that appealed to me were $5.25 (as opposed to the $3.50 well drinks.) But, once we were served, my concerns went away. Behold the smorgasbord.

sliders, skins, and pickles, oh my! |
A mountain of onion strings and fish tacos |
And, as you can see in the first photo, the signature complimentary biscuits are included. It was a lot of food, even amongst three people. I had no need to eat any more that night. And, that is where the bargain lies. I did spend around $20, but if I had eaten dinner at the restaurant with two drinks, the price would have easily doubled. I’m telling you, happy hour is where it’s at!
