Strawberry! Mmm!

Want to know an easy way to annoy people? Say the above title with a British accent every time strawberries are discussed. I know because I do it all the time and it doesn’t go over so well. I can’t help it, I love Mary Poppins and have memorized most of the dialogue. And when it fits, I use it to enhance the conversation.

Anywho…why am I discussing strawberries? Because last week I got to go to an awesome dinner at True Food Kitchen given by the CA Strawberry Commission. When I heard about this blogger event I was super excited because I love strawberries. I love them when they’re mentioned in Mary Poppins…

I love them when they decorate my favorite doll…

and I love them when they are fresh and delicious and ready to eat.
And that’s exactly what they were at the dinner. They were ready to eat in all sorts of ways. Like in the pot stickers above. Or stuffed with goat cheese.
Or combined with tomatoes for a bruschetta.
Or topped on a pizza with basil and goat cheese.
Oops! No strawberries on that one (it’s garlic chicken). The strawberry basil pizza was so popular that I could never capture it. Every time I tried to take a picture there would be one measly slice on the tray.

As you can see strawberries are a surprisingly versatile fruit. Er rose. Did you know they are not technically a fruit or vegetable but are actually part of the rose family? Interesting…

Yup, strawberries are great for apps and entrees. And drinks.

Like a strawberry rhubarb mojito. So, so yummy.

And I can’t forget dessert.

Strawberry rhubarb crisp and
almond cake topped with fresh strawberries and whipped yogurt. Aside from the pizza these little cakes were my favorites. Sweet almond cake topped with juicy fresh strawberries and slightly tart vanilla bean yogurt. Mmmmmm….

So, California strawberries…enjoy some because they are delicious!

full disclosure: I was treated to the dinner by the California Strawberry Commission. All my opinions are my own. Really, ask my mom. She’ll tell you all about my strawberry obsession. And my annoying Mary Poppins quotes.
