Atlas Obscura, G & B Coffee and Peddler’s Creamery

Recently my friends and I headed to Downtown LA to join a scavenger hunt put on by Atlas Obscura.  The three of us were a team and we were given clues to find historic buildings located in downtown. I figured it would be a cinch since these very buildings are a passion of mine. Sure enough when we opened the first clue and were told to go the the Central Library I knew exactly how to get there. Next stop – Angels Flight. We took a short cut. Next stop – Bradbury Building. No problem. Or at least that’s what I thought until we happened upon G & B Coffee.

G & B Coffee is a stall in the awesome Grand Central Market (why haven’t I written about that yet?) that serves coffee, tea and pastries. Now, it was a hot day and some iced tea or coffee sounded pretty good to all of us. So we stopped.

And I am so glad we did. I went for the Xin Gong Yi tea which contained citrus hops.

Doesn’t it look like a beer? But it wasn’t. It was delicious, delicious carbonated iced tea. My friends opted for coffee. Check out how it’s served:

Now I like that.
So we had a little hiccup. No worries. We went to the Bradbury Building and then the Farmers & Merchants Bank. After that our stop was to be the Pacific Electric Building. We headed down Main Street and saw…Peddler’s Creamery.
Yes, it’s ice cream made via bicycle. How could we pass that up? So we checked out the flavors:

and each got a scoop.

Mm, mm, mm. After that we knew our chances were pretty much shot so we just took our time heading to the other locations. Amazingly we came in fourth…out of six. I’m proud of that. And it made for a fun afternoon: historic sites, iced tea, ice cream…what could be better?

Danger, you may get easily distracted
