2018 Sunset Idea House Opens in Beverly Hills

I’ve been reading Sunset Magazine since I was a teenager. Thanks to my mom’s subscription I would lose myself in the best of the West and it’s a definite influence on my extensive travels as an adult. A few years ago I event visited the magazine’s former headquarters for their annual celebration! So, when I was invited to visit the 2018 Sunset Idea House in Beverly Hills I couldn’t wait to check it out.

Nested in the Benedict Canyon neighborhood of Beverly Hills this 2,000 square foot home is the epitome of SoCal indoor outdoor living.

Working with the designer Joe Bowcott the magazine aimed to create a hidden oasis in the heart of busy Los Angeles.

In my opinion, hey most certainly succeeded.

When I headed out to Beverly Hills to visit the house I fully expected to find a modern mansion decked to the nines so imagined my surprise when I entered a 1955 ranch house. I didn’t think these still existed in Beverly Hills!

As a fan of historic properties I’m so happy this modest home was embraced as the 2018 Idea House. Though it may be smaller than many of it’s neighboring properties it still has everything one needs for modern indoor/outdoor living.

I would be very happy living here. I wonder if they’d mind if I moved in?

The 2018 Idea House is open Saturdays and Sundays through September 9. Tickets are $20 with a portion benefiting the United Way.
