Scoring Concert Tickets on ScoreBig

Gather round folks while I tell you a story. One a upon a time this very gal use to hit up shows on a regular basis. Arcade Fire, Bob Dylan, Modest Mouse…no act would escape her grasp (except for Radiohead…dang, those tickets sell out fast!). But then she got older…a little wiser…and a whole lot more frustrated. It wasn’t the crowds or the late nights…it was those dang service fees. A $20 ticket would suddenly be $40, $40 would turn into $60 and $75 was heading into triple digits. It was enough to make a body crazy. So she just stopped. If she couldn’t get to the box office to avoid the fees she just wouldn’t go. So the shows dwindled and now she can hardly remember the last one she went to (think think think…it was Pink Martini one year ago).  Sad tale, isn’t it?

But this one has a happy ending. Recently I was approached by ScoreBig to check out their site and purchase a pair of tix (disclosure: I was given a credit to make my purchase).

ScoreBig

ScoreBig is a site offering tickets to various entertainment options throughout several metropolitan areas. If you like sports, the theatre, concerts, or even amusement parks they’ve got you covered. And the tickets are always at a discount (from 10-60%) and there are no hidden fees.

Recently I took a moment to peruse the sight and came upon an act that I’ve been wanting to see.

Elvis Costello show

Elvis Costello at the Hollywood Bowl. My favorite venue hosting an entertainer on my concert wish list (on that note, anyone want to hook me up with Paul McCartney tickets?).  Through ScoreBig I was able to look at the Bowl floor plan and choose what section I was interested in.  Now, here comes the fun part. When it comes to grabbing tickets on ScoreBig you bid on them (think airline tickets through Priceline). When you bid there’s a handy dandy meter letting you know how your chances are.

For the show the going rate for tickets was $48.60 a piece. I decided to gamble a bit and try for $40 a piece. No go. So I boosted it up to $45 and….

the tickets were mine! Now, my savings were only $3.60 a piece but $3.60 is $3.60. As they say, a penny saved is a penny earned. Plus, the tickets were sent to me via 2nd day air at no additional fee. I checked Ticketmaster and it would have cost $18 for the same shipping. Now that’s a whole lotta savings!

Come September you’ll find me at the Bowl rocking out to some sweet tunes. Thanks ScoreBig!

OMG, jealous! I love Ben Folds & if you have time before or after the show, he is known to do meet & greets:) This site looks awesome, though, & I am definitely checking it out 🙂
